Turbulence (a dance about the economy)
A dance about the economy? It had to come to this eventually. As the culmination of his week-long residency at Velocity Dance Center, Keith Hennessy, the Bessie award-winning queer artist-activist and choreographer, will open a two-night performance of his latest work. Danced by an international cast along with two Seattle-based guest artists, Turbulence is Hennessy’s bodily response to the current economic crisis. Delving into issues such as capitalism, torture and propaganda, as well as more enigmatic ideas like magic, the choreographer looks at “queerness” and improvisation as survival mechanisms in political participation.
