Ivan Doig

For nearly 30 years, author Ivan Doig has been the northern Rockies’ very own Cormac McCarthy. Raised inside his own kind of manifest-destiny narrative in a family of Montana ranchers, gray-bearded and cowboy-hatted Doig seems to insert his own likeness into many of his coal-mining, pony-galloping, pastoral narratives. It may be easy to pin him as a sort of literary Clint Eastwood, but Doig is a master of his craft, with his writing enduring decades and varied genres. The chance to see him read in such an intimate setting is well-worth the ferry ride to Eagle Harbor Books, located on Bainbridge Island.
