Date:
Thursday, July 12, 2012 - Friday, August 24, 2012
Venue:
James Harris Gallery Seattle-born, Los Angeles-based Noah Davis has rendered stills from episodes of The Jerry Springer Show and Maury Povich onto canvas, drawing the viewer into hyper-dramatic, hyper-real scenes. In one, a title card that would typically name the person onscreen—awaiting the results of a paternity test or battling a hell-raising teenager—reads “You.” Davis’ rendering of talk show phenomena observes “the production and spectacle of modern life, its relationship to the notion of artist as creator, and the latent parallels between highbrow and lowbrow culture.”
